For Immediate Release
WICHITA, Kan./EWORLDWIRE/Mar 12, 2007 --- Dr. Qizhi Gao, President, today announced that the Master of Oriental Medicine Program of the Kansas College of Chinese Medicine is a candidate for accreditation with the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) and is in the process of seeking accreditation.
ACAOM is the national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit Master's-level programs in the acupuncture and Oriental medicine profession. The Commission fosters higher education excellence by establishing policies and standards that govern the accreditation process for these programs. For potential students, patients and the community, accreditation provides reasonable assurance of the overall quality and competence of graduates, preparing them to practice safely and effectively. Currently, ACAOM has approved over 50 schools and colleges for accredited or candidacy status, most located in the eastern and western United States.
Graduates from ACAOM candidate and accredited colleges are qualified to take national examinations, administered by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Forty-three states and the District of Columbia license acupuncturists and Doctors of Oriental Medicine, most based on these exams. According to NCCAOM there are currently more than 13,000 nationally certified acupuncturists and Oriental medicine practitioners in the United States. However, there are only 131 practitioners in the five states of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
”We are proud to have earned Candidacy for Accreditation from ACAOM,” stated Dr. Qizhi Gao. “This achievement places us in equal standing with other Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Programs in the United States and assures KCCM is positioned to advance this rapidly growing field of medicine.”
As the only TCM College in the central states region, KCCM is entering its tenth year of operation. The College is already approved for Veterans Administration funding. Accreditation will accelerate KCCM’s eligibility to offer financial assistance to students under various federal and private financial aid programs.
